FAQ
Artwork Imaging & Prints
What is your imaging process?
I do not use a scanner. I use professional photography equipment and lighting setups. My monitors and printers are color calibrated to get the most accurate color and value match possible to the original artwork. But there is always some slight color variations due to the limited color range of printers.
What is your turnaround time for digitizing artwork?
Depending on the number of artwork pieces brought in, turnaround time is 7-14 days. Most small jobs, 1 to 3 artworks, require 7 days.
How long do you keep my artwork?
Due to color and value calibration for the best print match to your artwork, we need your original artwork for reference in our studio the entire process. It will be returned to you upon job completion and payment for services.
Can you output digital files for contest entries or magazine submissions?
Absolutely! We just need the specifications for the file sizes you need.
Can you photograph varnished artworks?
Yes, but it is best to photograph the artwork prior to varnishing. There is less issue with light reflectivity.
Can you photograph artworks that have been framed under glass?
Yes, but it is much easier when it is not under glass. There can be light reflectivity issues.
Can you photograph framed canvases?
Yes! This is not a problem since we photograph artwork instead of scanning them.
Photo Restoration
What is your imaging process?
Depending on the size of the photo, we either flat bed scan or photograph the original photo.
Can you enlarge a small photo?
Yes! This is not an issue. We’ll discuss what size you would like the final restored image to be.
Why do you charge by the hour for photo restoration?
Photo restoration is a time consuming process. It also requires thorough knowledge of Photoshop. Recoloring requires highly trained skills and artistic knowledge. You’re paying for these skills and the time put into the editing.
How long does it take to restore a photo?
That depends on many things. Each photo presents a different case.
- The amount of possible damage or wear to the photo.
- Do items need to be redrawn/repainted?
- Are you needing the photo recolored?
We take an artistic approach to restoration which involves highly trained skills. We must see the photo and know your request in order to provide an estimate. This is part of the consultation process. On average we have spent 5-6 hours editing.
